HEALTHY EATING IS THE FOUNDATION OF A HEALTHY LIFE
Smart, sensible food choices are the key to losing weight and feeling great
Every time you eat, you make choices that affect your health and the quality of your life. Most of the time, we choose without thinking - and as a result, we often unknowingly make unhealthy choices. The key is learning how to be more aware of the eating choices you make, so you can make healthy choices.
SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS
If you slip up, don't give up. Forgive yourself and get back on track. Pat
yourself on the back for everything you've done right, and then get back
to doing the right things. The key is to replace old, unhealthy habits with
new, healthy habits. Remember, you are creating a new life for yourself.
WHAT TO EAT
Any healthy eating plan starts
with vegetables. Vegetables are
low in calories and nutrient
dense, which means they are
packed with vitamins, minerals,
antioxidants and fiber. You also
want to eat low-fat, high-quality
proteins such as fish, chicken,
beans, nuts, seeds, peas, tofu
and soy.
WHAT NOT TO EAT
"Eating smart" means limiting
certain foods, especially simple
carbs and sugar. Reduce the
amount of candy, cakes,
desserts and chips you eat, and
avoid sugary drinks such as
soda and fruit juice.
HOW MUCH TO EAT
When we take in more calories
than our bodies can use up, it
turns to fat and excess weight.
The quickest way to lose weight
is to take in fewer calories. This
does NOT mean you should
skip meals or starve yourself.
Instead, try to tune into your
body's signals and stop eating
once your hunger is gone.
